We were saddened to hear that an 18-year-old man has died after he was involved in a collision involving an HGV on the M74 in Lanarkshire.
The incident was widely covered by national news today and happened near to Junction Six for Hamilton on the southbound motorway. Officers received a report of a man seen walking on the motorway around 3.10am on Saturday, 3rd August.
A short time later a further report was received after the man was struck by a vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for much of the day to allow for an investigation at the scene and fully reopened around 1pm. Enquiries remain ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses.
Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the 18-year-old man, as well as everyone else affected by this tragic incident.
“We working to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.
“We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man walking on the M74 between junctions six and seven, as well as anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.
