Over the next couple of weeks, we’re featuring some of the takeaways in Blantyre, by actually ordering (anonymously) and then with a write up and recommendations afterwards, something we’re looking forward to! First up was “Empire” at Main Street, High Blantyre.
This was the first time we’ve been to EMPIRE located at 256 Main Street. Opening hours are from 4pm – 11pm , but they’re closed on Tuesdays.
Premises were very clean, newly renovated and staff were friendly and polite. Empire offer authentic Peking, Cantonese, Sichuan and European dishes and what immediately struck us was the sheer offer of choice on the menu! They have a HUGE range of dishes on their large menus and really there is something for everybody.
They also have set meals, snack trays and munchie boxes of various sizes and to suit all tastes including vegetarian. We thought prices were fair and reasonable by comparison to some other takeaways. So, we ordered Chicken Chow Mein. It arrived quickly and we were hugely impressed first by the packaging. Not only in a good quality polystyrene container, but also over-wrapped in clingfilm, to help keep it warm and prevent sauce leaks whilst back in the car. A great start.
The meal itself was delicious. Thick, fresh noodles, cooked beautifully and what can we say! They probably couldn’t have crammed any more chicken into that container. Tender cooked chicken pieces mixed into the noodles with a delicious, tasty sauce. Portion size was also impressive, in fact we couldn’t finish it all.
Though only trying one meal for now, we couldn’t fault Empire. The premises, staff, service, quality, portions and price all welcome and of a high standard. We score them 9/10 only deducting a point (for now) as we’ve not yet had a chance to test their delivery.
