Alert! Suspicious Activity

We have a report of suspicious activity last night in Blantyre. CCTV systems have captured a man pulling up to a house in a white unbranded van and apparently trying to deliver a package at 4.30am. Not by chapping the door, but walking straight up to the house and pretending to leave a small, handheld package somewhere.

The man looked to be in his 30’s and wearing light coloured shorts.

This happened in the early hours of Friday 18th October 2024 in the Stonefield Road area of the town. Now, what was suspicious is that the resident’s RING doorbell camera clearly caught the man pretending to put a small package down on the ground but not actually putting it down, then taking it away again immediately after. Like going through the motions of putting an ‘invisible package’ on the doorstep! There were several things suspicious about this, especially the time of the alleged delivery, which was alarming to the resident who was awoken and was not expecting any deliveries.

It is difficult to comprehend how any delivery driver would ever turn up to a house in the middle of the night in the dark. The behaviour may have been masking ‘casing’ the property to see where PIR sensors or lights come on.

The footage showed a person walking past the house which looked unconnected, so the driver may have been spooked by this or changed his mind in whatever he was doing. The behaviour when viewed on camera, was certainly suspicious and reportable with the resident feeling it worthy of putting out an alert.

Delivery scams are on the rise in the area. Has anything like this happened to you recently?
