A HUGE congratulations to local Blantyre Councillor and Depute Provost, Bert Thomson who has been nominated for a council ‘Lifetime Legend Award’ to be held in Edinburgh on 14th November.
Having stood as an Independent, Snp and Labour candidate, Bert has dedicated himself to local politics serving 22 years. Remarkably, he has served in every council committee including chair of Equal Opportunities. Bert has also served in Blantyre Volunteer Group and on the board of David Livingstone Centre.
He was first a School Councillor in 1973. Then part of the Community Council which successfully stopped a Crematorium being built in Greenhall playpark. His involvement in other groups is notable too. Being on the original Board for Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP). Bert is often found helping others and puts others before himself. He is a big believer in the roles of Community Councils and in his new recent capacity as Depute Provost has helped host citizenship Ceremonies, civic dinners and military occasions.
Bert, told Blantyre Telegraph this evening, ‘I man very humbled and honoured”. Congratulations Bert!
