Officials were left red faced late yesterday afternoon, when the Christmas lights failed to come on after 2 countdowns at EK Village Christmas lights switch on event!
Whilst the afternoon itself prior to the switch on was a general festive success, some people took to Facebook to air their complaints about overpriced items, lack of fairground rides, and how packed everybody was in such a small space. The lights not coming on, and then when they did, only half were working was certainly a talking point.
David Booth, the council’s Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “In line with usual practice, checks were carried out in advance to ensure the lights were working ahead of the switch on event at East Kilbride Village.”
“Unfortunately, some cabling between columns appears to have been damaged following those checks. The issue was resolved late last night, and the lights are now working.”
“We apologise to anyone who was disappointed, but the circumstances were beyond our control. We hope that those in attendance were able to enjoy the performances and the atmosphere created by the event.”
Still, we shouldn’t complain. At least EK Village had an outdoor event! As of tonight, the Blantyre Christmas trees still aren’t lit, something we have enquired about.
