North Lanarkshire Council has unveiled plans to revitalise the watersports centre at Strathclyde Park, near Motherwell.
A planning application available on the council’s website outlines the project, which is supported by funding from the Green Growth Accelerator. The refurbishment includes constructing an extension over the roof terrace, adding new electric vehicle charging points, and modernising the venue to enhance its overall appeal. The project aims to attract more visitors, particularly to the new on-site café, while significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency. Carbon emissions are expected to plummet from over 200 tonnes per year to approximately 12.
Once completed, the transformed Watersports Centre will serve as a dynamic community hub and outdoor sports destination, further enhancing the park’s natural charm.
