Celebrating Litter Pickers in Blantyre and Hamilton

While most of us walk past litter without a second thought, there’s a special group of people who take action—volunteers who give up their time to keep our streets, parks, and verges clean. These are the unsung heroes in Blantyre and Hamilton in 2025. Armed with bin bags, 12 volunteers from Blantyre & Hamilton litter pickers, stepped up not for recognition or reward, but simply to make the world a better place for everyone.

Look at this lot! Filling 45 bags around the verges and the underpass below the EK Expressway at the end of High Blantyre’s Main Street. 2 hours of work for all those people.

These community heroes work in all weathers, often unnoticed, yet their impact is huge. They protect wildlife, improve public spaces, and inspire others to take pride in their surroundings. Their selflessness reminds us that small actions can make a big difference.

A spokesperson added, “We could easily have doubled our tally – we only covered about half the verges. Absolute dogs breakfast down there. Time the idiots littering woke up and realised the consequences of their stupid actions. God only knows what visitors to Hamilton and Blantyre think of the inhabitants. Take pride in your surroundings, please!”

Next time you see a litter picker in action, give them a smile, maybe a coffee or a thank you—or better yet, join in!
