Scottish Pubs Push for Longer Hours Amid World Cup Excitement

A leading hospitality group is urging ministers to allow longer licensing hours during Scotland’s World Cup fixtures next summer.

Steve Clarke’s men begin their first World Cup campaign in 28 years on 14 June against Haiti, with an early 02:00 UK-time kick-off. Their remaining group games, against Morocco on 19 June and Brazil on 24 June, are scheduled for 23:00 BST.

Health Secretary Neil Gray said the government will work with councils to help ensure fans can enjoy the matches. The Scottish Beer and Pub Association (SBPA) called the tournament a “once-in-a-generation” occasion and said extended opening hours would help venues cater for demand.
