The AA has predicted with some confidence that today, Friday 19th December, will be the busiest day of the year on UK roads.
An estimated 24.4 million cars are expected to be out travelling nationwide today, the main reasons for journeys being visiting family and friends, people heading home for the festive break and some last minute shopping.
With a steady rise in the number of vehicles on our roads each year, this year could be the busiest.
