Scottish Budget Special – Mansion Tax Announcement

We’re looking at some of the announcements from today’s Scottish Budget.

A mansion tax, similar to a plan for England, will target wealthy householders. The new tax will be introduced by April 2028 and applies to properties in Scotland worth more than £1m

Additionally, a “targeted revaluation” of the most expensive homes in Scotland will result in two extra higher council tax bands being created – one for properties valued between £1m and £2m, and one for homes valued above £2m, on the basis that those living in such properties should be able to contribute more in taxation.

Have your say. Is this something you support? Could more be done?

  1. not before time so good 👍🏻 and hopefully just a precursor to exploring the potential for taxing land as a next step

  2. Taxes, taxes, taxes and more laws, laws, laws. How do folks keep up?
New tax hardly pays for MSPs annual expenses.

With 15% of population on long term disability (NOT including seniors) that is more than the number of school age pupils!
Socialist policies are not making Scotland fiscally responsible.
