A key announcement in today’s Scottish Budget will see increased financial support for families during a child’s earliest months.
Finance Secretary Shona Robison confirmed that the Scottish Child Payment will rise to £40 per week for families with a baby under the age of one. The increase is set to come into effect from the 2027–28 financial year.
The move is being positioned as targeted support for low-income households, recognising the higher costs families face in a child’s first year of life. Ministers say the uplift reflects a commitment to tackling child poverty and helping parents cope with ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
