Sympathies are offered to the family of local woman, Margaret O’Donnell, who sadly passed away on 3rrd February at Hairmyres Hospital. She was 71.
Jo, Margaret’s sister told us, “Margaret lived in the supported living facility at Hunthill Road, High Blantyre for 26 years and made many friends here during that time. With a number of learning disabled friends she came out of hospital to live in the community and embraced her new life with huge enthusiasm and joy.”
“We are so grateful to the people of Blantyre who welcomed them all and made them feel so at home.”
Margaret was one of the two “original” residents at the premises at Hunthill Road. She had a busy social life between all her clubs, especially the ALMA Club, her line dancing and the Holy Jumpers Knitting group plus many lunches and dinners out and family visits. She was well known to the drivers of Hasties Cabs too.
Her great love was music and there were many music sessions in the lounge at Hunthill Road where the residents joined in with the singing and the dancing too. She enjoyed holidays all over the place with family and support workers.
Margaret was much loved by her siblings, the children of her siblings and her great-nieces and nephews too. Most of all, she came to be loved by so many in the Blantyre community too.
Jo continued, “We are heartbroken to lose her so unexpectedly and her loss leaves a huge hole in our lives. But the memories will remain. Always. Thank you to all of you who made her stay here such a full and happy one.”
Margaret will be received into St John Ogilvie’s Church at 5.30 pm on Monday 23 February with her funeral taking place there the following day at 10 am.
Rest in Peace, Margaret O’Donnell.
