Village for Homeless opens in Rutherglen

Isn’t this a an incredible project. A £3 million housing village designed to support people experiencing homelessness has officially opened in South Lanarkshire.

The new development, Harriet Gardens in Rutherglen, will accommodate up to 15 residents at any one time. Each person will live in their own “nest home” — a small, modular property — while also having access to shared facilities including a gym, communal kitchen and a community hub within the village.

Built on the site of a former sawmill that had stood unused for years, the project has been delivered through a partnership between charity Social Bite and South Lanarkshire Council. It marks the second village of its kind in Scotland and the first to be created in the west of the country.
