Police are now taking a firmer approach on drivers at Newhousemill Road Bridge (the wee bridge) after a significant number of collisions in 2025.

Last year alone saw an incredible 32 accidents, many of which saw expensive damage to vehicles and the bridge itself, some even writing off the vehicle altogether.

Officers have been monitoring East Kilbride’s ‘most notorious ‘wee bridge’ following recent public complaints. A Police spokesperson said: “On the 6th April and in response to complaints received from the public, Road Policing officers attended at “The Wee Bridge” at Newhousemill Road, East Kilbride.”In 2025, approximately 32 collisions were reported at this location.”

“During the 90 minutes officers were in attendance; over 150 vehicles crossed the bridge with three large vans being measured and the drivers being warned regarding the width of their vehicles. One van driver was warned regarding driving with one wheel on the footpath to line his van up with the bridge.”Drivers are reminded to be aware of the size of their vehicles and their manner of driving whilst approaching the bridge.”
