Heartfelt Wedding Made Possible by Caring NHS Staff

Staff at University Hospital Wishaw have been praised for helping make a terminally ill patient’s final wish come true.

Maggie Leaker, who has been with her partner Stephen Langford for 26 years, was able to marry the love of her life in an emotional ceremony held within the hospital sanctuary.

With little time to prepare, staff from the Coronary Care Unit and Medical High Dependency Unit came together to create a truly special day. They decorated rooms, arranged flowers and a wedding cake, and ensured Maggie was comfortable and cared for throughout every moment of the couple’s celebration.

Speaking after the ceremony, Maggie said: “After 26 years together, being able to finally marry Stephen meant everything to me.”

The touching gesture left an impression on Maggie’s family. Her daughter Samantha described the hospital staff as “angels on this earth” for the kindness, compassion and support they showed to the entire family during such an emotional time.

The dedication shown by the staff at University Hospital Wishaw went far beyond medical care. Their warmth, empathy and determination helped create precious memories that Maggie, Stephen and their loved ones will always cherish.

A truly inspiring example of the extraordinary difference NHS staff make in people’s lives every single day. ❤️ Congratulations Maggie and Stephen!

With thanks to NHS Lanarkshire.
