St John Ogilvie High School in Hamilton has received a highly positive inspection report, with inspectors praising the school’s leadership, learning environment, wellbeing support and academic achievements.
Education Scotland rated Leadership of Change as Excellent, highlighting the outstanding leadership of the headteacher and senior management team. Inspectors described the school’s collaborative approach as “sector-leading”, with staff and pupils working together to drive continuous improvement.
The report also rated Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusion, and Raising Attainment and Achievement as Very Good. Pupils were praised for their respectful behaviour, strong work ethic and positive attitudes to learning.
Inspectors found that young people benefit from excellent wellbeing support, innovative mental health initiatives, strong parental engagement and a wide range of learning opportunities. Attainment levels continue to improve, with many results performing above national comparators, particularly for pupils from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
The report identifies St John Ogilvie High School as a school where young people feel safe, valued and supported, with a strong culture of ambition, inclusion and success. Education Scotland also highlighted several examples of practice that should be shared nationally, including the school’s leadership model, wellbeing programmes, parental engagement strategy and innovative tracking systems.
