A major section of the M8 in Glasgow was closed today following the death of a 29-year-old man in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the motorway near Junction 11 at Cranhill shortly before 3am today, Sunday 30 August.
The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene and the eastbound carriageway was subsequently closed while police carried out enquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 02:55 on Sunday 30 August, officers attended the M8 at Cranhill, Glasgow, following a report of a man fallen from a bridge onto the eastbound carriageway.
“The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The M8 eastbound remains closed while enquiries are carried out.”
Motorists travelling east are being diverted off the motorway at Junction 11 before being directed back onto the M8 at Junction 10.
Traffic Scotland advises drivers to leave at Junction 11 and turn left onto Gartloch Road. At Gartloch Roundabout, motorists should take the second exit onto Auchinlea Road, then turn right onto Westerhouse Road before rejoining the motorway at Junction 10.
Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys while the closure remains in place.
