Blantyre Leisure Centre is set to benefit from a major £1 million investment over the next three years as part of South Lanarkshire Council’s plans to improve its public buildings.
The Glasgow Road facility is one of the two largest individual investments included in the programme, alongside Hamilton Water Palace, highlighting the importance of maintaining and improving Blantyre’s main leisure facility for the local community.
Almost half of the £1 million allocated to Blantyre Leisure Centre for decarbonisation works is expected to be spent during 2026/27, meaning improvements could start making a noticeable difference relatively soon.
The investment forms part of a wider £24 million programme connected to the council’s new 10-year estates strategy.
Works across the council estate may include improvements to building fabric, accessibility, essential compliance work, replacement of ageing equipment and infrastructure, as well as measures designed to make buildings more energy efficient.
For Blantyre, the investment represents welcome long-term support for a well-used community facility, helping ensure the leisure centre remains safe, accessible and fit for purpose for local residents, clubs, families and visitors.
