As Blantyre awaits a new leisure centre, it’s the turn of lucky old Larkhall! Construction is officially underway on a brand-new £28.7 million leisure centre in Larkhall, with the impressive new facility expected to open in 2028.
Being built alongside the existing leisure centre, the modern complex will offer a fantastic range of sporting, fitness and community facilities, including:
🏊 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool with an adjustable-depth floor, making it accessible for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
🏋️ State-of-the-art gym with modern fitness equipment.
🧖 Wellness suite featuring sauna and steam rooms.
💃 Fitness and dance studio which can also accommodate community activities.
🏸 Three-court sports hall suitable for badminton, pickleball, five-a-side football and larger events.
🏢 Flexible community spaces supporting local training, learning opportunities and small businesses.
The ambitious project is being funded primarily by South Lanarkshire Council, contributing £22.5 million, alongside £3 million from City Deal, £2.1 million from the Scottish Government and £200,000 from sportscotland.
BAM Construction has been appointed to deliver the development in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and hub South West.
Council Leader Maureen Devlin described the development as a major investment in the community, saying the new centre will be a facility residents can be proud of for generations to come.
With construction now underway, Larkhall is set to benefit from one of South Lanarkshire’s largest investments in leisure facilities.
