Remembering Cllr Lesley McDonald

Councillor Lesley McDonald has passed away after a short illness. Serving in Ward 20 since 2007 and as Chair of the Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, she was respected and well-liked. Known for her dedication, passion for Robert Burns, and support of Scottish rugby, she will be greatly missed. Flags have been lowered in her honor.

Brian Charlton, a beloved community figure in Blantyre, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, surrounded by family. Known for his kindness and dedication, he significantly improved the area, particularly through his work with the Priory Bridge Residents Association. His warmth and helpful nature will be deeply missed by many.

Bridie Paterson, aged 86, passed away at Douglas View Care Home on April 1, 2026. Her funeral will take place at South Lanarkshire crematorium on April 23 at 11 am, followed by a gathering at Carrigans Blantyre for sharing memories. The family expresses their condolences during this difficult time.

Remembering Jim Hanlan (80)

Local man Jim Hanlan passed away at the age of 80 on April 10th. His funeral is scheduled for April 23rd at 3pm at South Lanarkshire Crematorium, High Blantyre. Friends and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects. The community extends condolences to Jim’s family during this difficult period.

Remembering John Anderson

John Anderson’s funeral will take place on Friday, April 24th, at 1pm at Blantyre Old Parish Church, followed by burial at High Blantyre Cemetery at 2pm. The family requests no flowers, instead asking for donations to the British Heart Foundation. The cortège departs from Wheatlands Avenue at 12:30.

Agnes Dixon, a beloved local woman known for her involvement with St Joseph’s Church in Blantyre, passed away on March 20 at Hairmyres Hospital. Her funeral will be held at St Joseph’s Church on April 13 at 10:00 am, followed by a service at South Lanarkshire Crematorium. She is dearly missed.
