The planned roadworks that were supposed to close the M74 motorway slip road at Hamilton and Motherwell have been postponed by North Lanarkshire Council. The works at Junction six of the M74’s Clyde Bridge were scheduled to start today, July 6th, but no new dates have been announced.
South Lanarkshire Council will close Hunthill Road and Bardykes Road for maintenance from July 21 to July 25, 2025. Full road closures will occur between Main Street and Glasgow Road. While residents will have local access, other traffic must use diversions via Main Street, Broompark Road, Stonefield Road, and Glasgow Road.
Glasgow Road in Blantyre will be closed in both directions from John Street to Forrest Street from August 4th to August 8th for resurfacing. Diversions will be in place via Auchinraith Road, Main Street, Hunthill Road, and Bardykes Road. Access for residents on Elm Court and Church Street will be maintained.
On 16 June 2025, South Lanarkshire Council enacted a regulation prohibiting speeds over 20 mph on specific roads in Blantyre, particularly near schools. The order applies to various streets including those adjacent to Auchinraith Primary School and others, emphasizing safety in school zones and requiring police permission for exceptions.
Significant roadworks in Hamilton will involve the closure of the eastbound off slip at Junction 6 of the M74 and lane 1 of the A723 for four weeks from July 6 to August 3. Traffic to Motherwell will be diverted south towards Hamilton, then redirected to A723 northbound.
Best to avoid Newhousemill Road at the moment. There’s a car stuck as of lunchtime today, with approaching vehicles having to turn around. Newhousemill Road will be fully closed from Davington Drive, Hamilton to Muirmains Farm from Monday, June 23 to Friday, June 27, 2025, for resurfacing. The closure affects the route between High Blantyre and East Kilbride, with diversions set along Parkneuk Road, Sydes Brae, Hillhouse Road, and EK Expressway.
Amey, representing Transport Scotland, will resurface the westbound A725 at Whistleberry Retail Park from June 9 to June 15, 2025. Overnight closures from 8pm to 6am will occur, with signed diversions via Whistleberry Road. Traffic management will be lifted by 6am on June 15, 2025. Full details are available online.
