Recent reports indicate that at least 11 individuals in the UK, including 9 children, have tragically drowned while seeking relief from extreme heat in open water. Many incidents occurred in isolated areas. As temperatures are expected to decrease, it’s critical to prioritize safety by avoiding deep or cold water.
Blantyre Leisure Centre will reopen its gym and swimming pool on 12 January after extensive renovations. Improvements include new cardio and resistance equipment, enhanced changing facilities, and the introduction of the BOX12 Pod for modern fitness experiences. Swimming lessons and Aquafit will also resume, with further upgrades planned for February.

The Little Dolphin Academy offers free swimming lessons at High Blantyre’s swimming pool. Participants can win a 1:1 Intensive course during the Easter holidays by following simple steps on their Facebook page. The competition ends on February 28th, with lessons scheduled from April 7th to April 18th.
