Exclusive: Blantyre against Obesity

facebookA campaign local against obesity is underway.

Local man Ross Young told Blantyre Telegraph, “Hello Blantyre. For those of you who dont know me my names Ross Young. I am the head personal trainer at Forever Young Health and Fitness. I will be bringing you a health and fitness article on a steady basis where we will cover all the info you need to start living a more healthy active lifestyle. I will be basing the articles on the questions I get asked the most so if you have any question you would like answered then send me an email to foreveryounghaf@gmail.com.

This week I want to tell you about a campaign that is about to be brought our local community.

Some of you may remember back in 2010 a survey was took and named Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire as the fattest town in Britain. Hearing that news, A local personal trainer assembled a team and launched a campaign to change that statistic. The “Slim Scotland” campaign was born.

I was lucky enough to join that team in 2013 and witness first hand the difference that has been made to Coatbridge and the surrounding areas and I am happy to announce we will be launching a new chapter right here in Blantyre. This will be named the “Blantyre against Obesity” Campaign. It will be running in partnership with the Slim Scotland Campaign.

Obesity is of course a global epidemic but we have to start looking on our own doorstep before looking any further and then we will continue to work  community by community. This isn’t just about helping people lose weight and be healthier, Its about providing the right education to people so they can not only help themselves but help others around them and future generations.

I don’t know if it is still the same but when I was at school, healthy eating wasn’t something we were taught on. Kids nowadays are much less active than they used to be and are exposed to much more processed food and takeaways than I ever was. Things have changed drastically over the last decade or two and while it will be a long road back if we don’t start acting now then there may be too late to change things.

On top of consistently putting out articles I will be looking to start up many different opportunities for people to gain knowledge. My plan is to offer free nutrition advice through

  • Live seminars
  • Online webinars
  • Online facebook groups ( click here to join)
  • Nutrition clubs and much more.

I will also be looking to put on fitness sessions that people can come along to and learn the basics of exercise. This will include

  • Free fitness classes
  • Walking clubs
  • Running Clubs
  • Kids activities
  • Sporting Events for kids and adults
  • Plus a whole lot more

I am fully aware that this isnt going to happen overnight. This is going to be long term plan for the future and it is something I can’t do alone. This campaign is also going to create income opportunities for anyone who wants to get on board. I am currently in the process of putting together a team to work closely with during this. I will be posting soon about what areas ill need help with and hopefully this will find its way to the right people.

If being part of this movement then you can register your interest in one of the ways below.

I would appreciate you all sharing this if possible to try and get it in front of as many eyes as possible.

Remember to join our facebook group for nutrition and workout tips and to keep track of all events. The group will be open for any questions you may have as well. Alternatively you can like our facebook page or contact us personally.

Cheers

Ross Young
