It’s with sorrow we’ve learned of the sad passing of Blantyre lady, Catherine Cain.
Catherine lived in High Blantyre with her family Michelle, Brian and Grandchildren. This remarkable lady worked in Social Work child care for 25 years and was well known in the community. However, her life was turned around when she discovered she had an inoperable brain tumour. She sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday 23rd August 2018.
In the final week of her life, a wonderful benefit night was held at the Blantyre Miners Welfare, organised by friends and family. As these pictures show, Catherine was very taken aback and appreciative of all the kindness everybody showed that evening.
Janette Taggart, a friend told us, “I’d like it to be known how great the support was for Catherine’s benefit night. We raised over £4,000 thanks to the generosity of local businesses, family and friends. People were happy to donate prizes for raffles and the support was outstanding. A big thank you to The Cornerstone’s Troy and Nikki, Mick at the Hoolets Nest, Steven Reid Florist, Cut and Shave, Cathy at Bling, Shanghi Wok, Spice of Life, Golden Sea, Danny Rodgers Butcher, Jackie at Hair Connection and Asda.”
Janette added, “Also a huge thank you to Ann Scott and John Brown for sourcing many of the contributors. Further thanks also go to JDS Window blinds, The Country Shop, Blantyre Miners Welfare and Mick McCann and to everyone else friends and family who took the time to donate. I would like to say a special thank you to Mo at the Family Shopper for his donation and attending the benefit night. Also John Clifford for donating fantastic Legend prizes. If I have missed anyone sorry, Catherine enjoyed her night and was overwhelmed by everything you all did for her.”
Pictured are photos of Catherine herself, her daughter and Grandson, who sang for her. Also pictured are two other Grandchildren Teighan Lee and Darren. Friends, family and colleagues are in the rest of the photos shown, with kind permission from Janette.
Catherine’s funeral is on Wednesday 5th September 2018 at 1pm at Daldowie. It is clear that she will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues.
Rest in Peace Catherine.
