River Incident at the Village

Emergency services have responded to an incident in the River Clyde in Blantyre.

Fire, ambulance and specialist river rescue teams arrived and set up near the gates of David Livingstone Centre, on Station Road just after 5.20pm this evening, Friday 11th October 2019.

Police were also in attendance and reports from local residents suggest a young male had fallen into the water.

It is understood that a local boy was thankfully retrieved from the water safely just before 5.40pm and taken away in an ambulance. The emergency vehicles and incident have now left the scene.

We hope everybody involved is ok and thank the emergency services for their prompt action. It is another reminder that this part of the Clyde is very dangerous, not only in but alongside the fast flowing river.
