Livingstone Birthplace Progress

How about this for a fantastic photo of the David Livingstone Birthplace!

This aerial shot was kindly shared by Iain Douglas and shows nicely the landscaping work undertaken so far outside Shuttle Row, the birthplace of explorer David Livingstone.

It shows the new, open area to the left of the building, where there had previously had been paths, railings and gardens. Additionally, new hard landscaping can be seen. The buildings have had a first whitewash undercoat and just look at all those new windows, so sympathetically restored, worthy of the listed status.

The World Fountain is being reinstated outwith the photo and we’re still a couple of months away from planting season.

A spokesperson for David Livingstone Birthplace said, “2020 has been a long hard year for everyone and so many events have been put on hold due to the pandemic.

The Birthplace Project has suffered various delays over the year due to the building site being shut down during lockdown, but we are so excited to learn that the builders will be leaving and the long-awaited design of the inside of the museum can now be implemented.

We have to thank everyone for their never-ending support and interest in the ongoing work at David Livingstone’s Birthplace and we cannot wait to show you all the incredible transformation.

We could not have got to this place without the support of people like you believing in the vision we have for the Birthplace.

We must of course thank our partners the Heritage Fund without whom none of this would have been possible.”
