Council Services Festive Hols

The countdown to Christmas is well and truly underway! And although many council services will continue throughout the festive period, a number of them will close or not be available.

All council offices will be closed on Friday 25 and Monday 28 December 2020, and Friday 1 and Monday 4 January 2021.

If you have a social work emergency when your local social work office is closed contact the Emergency Social Work Service on 0303 123 1008.

As normal, there will be some changes to bin collection arrangements over the Christmas and the New Year.

All the details are available on the council website, but if your bin is due to be collected on Friday 25 December, it will change to Sunday 27 December. If you bin is due to be collected on Friday 1 January 2021, it will change to Sunday 3 January 2021. There will be no changes to bins scheduled to be collected Monday to Thursday during this time. However, adverse weather conditions can result in delays during the winter months.

All Registration offices remain closed to the public. Arrangements for the registration of births, deaths and marriages and the delivery of other council services during the festive period will be displayed at the relevant offices.

In the event of an emergency (for example to carry out a death registration where the deceased has to be taken out of the country) during either holiday period, please contact SLC out of hours contact service 0800 242024 who will contact a Registrar on your behalf.

Country parks and other leisure and culture services will also be closed on certain days during the festive season. Please refer to South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture’s website for all the details.

Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, John Ross, said: “I would like to wish everyone all the very best over the Christmas and New Year period, and most importantly, please stay safe and adhere to the Scottish Government guidelines in relation to Covid-19.

“Many of our workers will of course be working right through the festive period and I want to take this opportunity to thank them all.

“Your hard work and dedication is much appreciated by everyone in South Lanarkshire.

“I would ask everyone to take note of the information on our website in terms of our services that will not be available.”
