Royal Mail Scam

Our readers have been sending in messages today warning of scam text messages that look like they’re coming from Royal Mail. The problem is actually Nationwide, with Royal Mail themselves issuing a warning.

The scam appears in the form of a text message to your phone, claiming a parcel had tried to be delivered, but was taken away until a fee is paid. The link on the website, usually asking you to pay a small amount, takes you to a website which looks like Royal Mail,….but is NOT…,.its a fake website trying to get your personal and bank details!

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said, “Royal Mail will only send email and SMS notifications to customers where the sender has requested this when using our trackable products that offer this service. The only time we would ask customers to make a payment in an email or SMS is if a customs fee is due.”

Reader Sharon Sowerby told us, “I’ve had two in two days. These scammers will try anything and everything.”

Another person added, “Can you please let your readers know this scam is doing the rounds. My mother and my cousin in Blantyre both received a scam text this morning”.

Have your say. Did YOU get one of these text messages?
