According to the World Health Organisation, residents here in Lanarkshire now live in THE most covid infected area in Europe, where shockingly, 1125 people in every 100,000 have coronavirus.
Case levels in Scotland are 80% higher now than they were last week, and five times higher than they were four weeks ago. The number of people in hospital has more than doubled since 20 August, from 312 to 629, signifying that the pandemic is far from over.
Intensive care admissions have not risen as quickly, but have still gone up from 34 to 59 over the same timescale. Links to schools returning in Scotland earlier than the rest of the UK are being explored as possible reasons for the sudden increase. With Schools set to return in NI, Wales and England, cases are being carefully monitored.
Meanwhile in Scotland, 4,108,804 people have had a first dose of vaccine, and 3,691,066 have had two.
