Now here’s a wonderful story to end the week with! A former Calderside Academy pupil has been crowned “Miss Great Britain”!
Amy Meisak (29), left Calderside Academy back in 2011 and was one of the first students to attend the school after it opened.
Miss Great Britain had a record number of applicants this year and Amy had to compete alongside 39 regional winning finalists! The event was held in “the Athena” in Leister a week ago today. They collectively raised over 48K for charity on the lead up to Miss GB.
Amy told Blantyre Telegraph, “I was diagnosed with an incurable auto immune disease last October called lupus. I then lost my beloved grandpa who brought me up back in march. Which is why I’ve used my experience for a greater purpose and want to help people through my self development workshops limitless!”
She now runs her own home help company helping the elderly and also has an interest in property renovation. So no middle ground with outfits it’s either pageant heels or joiner boots!
Amy continued, “I also launched a ladies empowerment workshop called limitless which I plan to tour around Great Britain and try break into schools with it (would love calderside to be my first school) to give people the skills and tools they need to overcome any challenge! Anything from goal setting to overcoming fears, covering leadership skills and habits of highly effective people.”
“I have a broadcasting and media background and would love to get into tv presenting.”
And in a competition first Amy’s stunning mum Laurie also competed, coming first runner-up in the Miss Great Britain Classic for over-45s.
“Where I begged my mum to compete alongside me! Because just last year they opened up a “Ms Great Britain Classic” division for over 45s! Mum joined me in competing in the Miss Great Britain contest albeit different categories but it was the ultimate mother daughter bonding experience.”
