Today is remembrance Sunday, a day where we pay our respects to the fallen military men and women over the years and as usual, not one but TWO public services will be held in Blantyre.
As well as various church services on this morning, two outdoor remembrance services for the whole community have been arranged. All individuals and organisations are invited.
The services will be conducted concurrently at 3pm. High Blantyre Baptist Minister Steve Younger will be conducting the service at Auchentibber War Memorial on Parkneuk Road and Minister Malcolm Anderson of the Congregational Church leading at High Blantyre Cemetery’s Cenotaph, at Cemetery Road at the same time.
Each location is looking beautiful decorated kindly by contributing members of the community and local volunteers, as shown in our photo earlier this morning.
For those wanting to warm up afterwards, Blantyre Community Council have also kindly arranged a free cup of tea and cake afterwards at 3.15pm, in the nearby High Blantyre Hall on Cemetery Road.
Finally, for those interested in the history of the fallen, our sister website Blantyre Project has extensive coverage of the stories of many of Blantyre’s war victims all throughout this week and into next at http://www.blantyreproject.com Lest we forget.
