George Square was the venue this morning for the UK’s second largest remembrance service, only surpassed in numbers by London.
Glasgow residents came out in their thousands to join thousands of military servicemen and women from the Army, Air Force and Navy. Military bands played hymns to honour the fallen.
Despite the numbers of people, you could hear a pin drop at the 2 minutes silence as Glasgow fell silent after the piper’s lament. Voices were raised loudly in unison above George Square as everybody joined in with popular remembrance hymns. A sermon took place followed by prayer.
We remember the sacrifices of those men and women who served and also those who sent help and assisted from afar, who stood by all our sides. Those who fell in battle and are buried at sea or in far off places. We remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
