Exciting news as we exclusively reveal that an award winning Nepalese & Indian Restaurant is coming to High Blantyre!
Wee Gurkha Curry House is an award-winning authentic Nepalese Curry House, currently located at the Village, East Kilbride. The business is expanding, moving premises to High Blantyre to the building which was the former Cornerstone Pub, at the junction of Main Street and Hunthill Road.
The building is presently being renovated ahead of Wee Gurkha’s arrival.
It’s the end of an era for the building, owned by the Carrigan family, as a public house, but this exciting and welcome change, means High Blantyre and surrounding towns and villages can look forward to incredible Nepalese & Indian dishes in a relaxed, traditional and trendy setting all run by an established, successful business.
Crispy appetising pakoras, delicious special curry dishes and tasty desserts are just some of the amazing food options on the menu, as can be seen from these mouth watering photos.
The interior of the building is being overhauled, with tasteful, appropriate decor and plenty of covers. The floor space will be transformed, offering a collection area for drop in customers. Delivery options will be available too in future. The rest of the lower floor will accommodate the new restaurant and the existing kitchen and toilets.
The professional chefs are passionate about preparing great food and in an environment which promises a fabulous eating out experience.
Wee Gurkha Curry House is a small, family run business. It currently holds the Scottish Asian Food Award title of Nepalese Restaurant of the Year and was recently highly commended at the Scottish Curry Awards.
Owners, Mohan, born in Nepal and Lanarkshire born Lorraine Bhandari told us, “We are thrilled for our move to Blantyre and our plans for the future. We got married here so it has a special place in our hearts. We look forward to serving up flavoursome food with friendly service to locals and will warmly welcome existing and new customers with a delicious, varied menu.”
“Nepalese food is affectionately known as the cuisine of the Himalayas and is influenced by both India and Tibet. You’ll see some old favourites on our menu but there will also be plenty of new dishes to enjoy. We really can’t wait to open our doors.”
The licensed restaurant is scheduled to open early 2024.
