A fundraiser by the Hunter family, for Liber8, in memory of their late daughter Cassandra, has been a remarkable success, raising over £1500.
Cassandra, affectionately known as Cass, was not only a beloved member of the Hunter family but also a dedicated psychotherapist at Liber8, Blantyre. Tragically, she passed away on 23rd August 2017, after collapsing during her regular run at Chatelherault. As she approached the back of Chatelherault house at the end of her run she collapsed and died of unknown cause. Despite the profound loss, Cass’s family has chosen to honor her memory by celebrating her life and the impactful work she did through fundraising activities.
This year has been particularly significant for the Hunter family, marked by multiple joyous occasions amidst the backdrop of their enduring grief. Martin and Mary celebrated their 70th birthdays and 50th wedding anniversary, while their son David turned 40. Additionally, the family commemorated 40 years in their home in Hamilton and welcomed their first grandchild, Màili Kate.
In lieu of traditional presents, the Hunters decided to use their family gatherings as an opportunity to launch the fundraiser, inviting contributions to support Liber8’s vital counselling services.
Margaret Halbert, the CEO of Liber8, expressed profound gratitude for the ongoing support from the Hunter family and the broader community. She described Cass as a remarkable individual, characterized by her warmth, empathy, and dedication to helping others. Cass’s untimely passing left a void in many lives, but her legacy continues to inspire acts of kindness and generosity. Even amidst their own grief, the Hunter family selflessly donated funds from Cass’s funeral service to Liber8 and a children’s charity, reflecting Cass’s passion for supporting vulnerable individuals.
As the fundraising efforts persist through the years, it serves as a poignant reminder of Cass’s enduring impact and the Hunter family’s unwavering commitment to honoring her memory.
In death, Cass’s spirit lives on, continuing to touch the lives of those she deeply cared for and supported.
