Electrical Voltage Checks Scam

We’ve been advised to make readers aware of a company called ‘Energy Awareness Scotland‘ who is cold calling residents in a known scam.

They claim that following the Grenfell disaster they have been tasked with carrying out electrical voltage checks across Scotland. This is not true. They know the resident’s name, address, and telephone number. Unfortunately, some residents agreed to a survey, and this was arranged for the same day. The “surveyor” checked 3 sockets and advised the residents the voltage was too high, and they were “at risk”.

A voltage optimiser was then offered at a cost of £1,900 which was not installed or needed, following transfer of the money. Sadly a few people in Lanarkshire have been scammed.

Please make anybody in a vulnerable position aware of this scam, especially those who stay in multi storey accommodation. Stay Safe!
