Baby Loss Awareness Week

Baby Loss Awareness Week is an annual event observed from October 9th to October 15th. It is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about pregnancy and infant loss, providing support to grieving families, and advocating for better care and policies for those who experience this tragedy.

The week involves various activities, such as lighting candles, wearing pins, and holding events to honor the lives of babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The final day, October 15th, is marked as International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, and at 7:00 PM local time, people participate in the Wave of Light, lighting candles in memory of lost babies.

Well done to all our student midwives at University of the West of Scotland, High Blantyre who are helping to mark #BabyLossAwarenessWeek at their Lanarkshire campus. Pictured is a tree to remember the babies as well as informative literature.

The initiative also serves to break the silence surrounding baby loss, encouraging conversations, offering support, and promoting awareness among healthcare professionals and policymakers. It brings together parents, families, charities, and organisations working toward better bereavement care and emotional support.
