What to Expect from Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken in East Kilbride

We were delighted to be invited to the soft launch of Popeye’s Louisana Chicken this evening, Sunday 26th January.

Along with other media representatives and local families, we were thrilled to be asked to sample the menu and given a sneak peek, ahead of their BIG opening tomorrow (Monday 27th). Here’s our review:

The venue is the former Frankie and Benny’s restaurant at Nerston, East Kilbride, located nearby to Blantyre at the top of the Expressway. The premises has been beautifully renovated, vibrant and colourful, with a strong brand and welcoming atmosphere. The large illuminated signage can be seen from the Expressway and there’s now a spacious drive through. On our visit, we opted to sit in.

The interior is clean, spacious and is set out in booths and tables. Ordering is quick and easy using touchscreens which have clear menus, easy to navigate. Prices were affordable and reasonable, which was pleasantly surprising.

Food was brought over to our table and we decided to sample the Spicy Chicken Sandwiches, Cajun fries, chicken pieces and ice cream. It’s not often you’ll find the food looking like the promotional photos, but this WAS the case. Another big plus!

Food was fresh, delicious and tasty and portion sizes very generous. We found later that the chicken cooked at Popeyes is never frozen, always fresh. Staff did well, though the army of people in the kitchen was clear some still are finding their feet. The only teething problem, which was very minor was having to ask for napkins, with none provided or put out, but again this may have been down to being the first few people to try the service. Other than this, staff were friendly, polite and served with a smile. In fact, several were very accommodating, checking with us and others if we were enjoying our meal and were generally very helpful.

We left feeling full, satisfied and with a feeling that KFC and McDonalds are going to be met with some serious competition in this area! As for a score? We’re going for 9.5 out of 10. Leaving us suitably impressed, we think Popeye’s will be a roaring success if all customers are treated with the same high standards of service as we were met with. Highly recommended, we’ll definitely be back!

Thanks also to the customers pictured who gave permission for these photos. Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken opens on Monday 27th January at 11am.
