A local crime story, posted here to create some awareness. A Blantyre Telegraph reader, who wishes to remain anonymous messaged us saying:
“My daughter and her friend were getting the 201 to East Kilbride last Sunday (06/04) an ‘old bald man’ who is short and was wearing all black kept rubbing my daughter’s back (on the bus), making her feel uncomfortable. She moved away from him on the bus at East Kilbride. She held the handbar that dangles from the ceiling, and instead of using one of the empty ones behind her, he came forward and put his hand in the same one as hers rubbing her hand and standing close against her back.”
“Both my daughter and her friend were uncomfortable and left to go shopping. They then proceeded to see the man in three other shops just watching them. After the third time her friend made it apparent to him that they knew he was following them and he then stopped.”
“This was reported to the police, who came and took a statement from the girls. We have now had an update that the bus CCTV was not giving a clear view of the situation and in the shopping centre the CCTV just shows him in the same place. We have been advised their statements stay on file. So if any other child finds themselves in this situation, they should immediately report to their parents and for them to report to the police. It’s only since the police spoke to them they have realised how serious this is and could have been.”
The incident left the young girls shocked and frightened. Her family naturally angry and concerned. But they did the right thing in reporting it right away.
As with all such activity like this, it should be immediately reported to police in the first instance.
