Some World News next. The world’s oldest person, Brazilian nun Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, has died at the age of 116, meaning the title of the world’s oldest woman has now passed to a British lady.
Ethel Caterham, who lives at a care home in Lightwater, Surrey, England is 115 years old (and 252 days). Incredibly, she was born in August 1909, a full half decade earlier than WW1 started! Long life is in her family with one of her sisters living to 104.
Ethel has lived through a century of innovation, change and technology, from the early birth of flight, radio, TV, vehicular transport, through two World Wars, the Space Race, the Millennium to name a few events. If a baby is born this year who lives to the same age, they would see in the year 2140….can you imagine what things that person would see in their lifetime!
A spokesperson for Hallmark Lakeview Luxury Care Home, where Ms Caterham is a resident, said: “What an incredible milestone and a true testament to a life well-lived.”
“Your strength, spirit and wisdom are an inspiration to us all. Here’s to celebrating your remarkable journey.”
