Heathrow Airport scraps 100ml rule

Heathrow Airport has scrapped their rule about liquids in containers being only 100ml or less.

It means, larger volume liquids can now be carried through checkin and scanners. New, High Tech scanners installed now also mean electronics such as laptops can also be left in luggage, while clear plastic bags for liquids no longer have to be used.

Heathrow now says it is the biggest airport in the world to have the new equipment fully rolled out across all its terminals.

However, caution is still required, as many smaller airports, within the UK have still to roll out or consider the rule, with the 100mm limit still imposed. Especially important if you have a connecting flight.

Gatwick, Edinburgh and Birmingham airports already have also upgraded in recent years and increased to a two-litre limit. At most other UK airports including Glasgow and Edinburgh, passengers can keep liquid containers of up to 100ml in their luggage, without having to remove them and use clear plastic bags.
