Some Trains Cancelled after devastating Glasgow Fire

Glasgow residents awaken this morning to the most horrific scenes after a major fire caused a building to collapse in the city’s Union Street. Scotland’s busiest railway station is closed all day after the major blaze in which part of a building next door to it collapsed last night.

There has been significant travel disruption. No trains will run to or from the high-level platforms at Glasgow Central Station, while trains that run through the low-level platforms will not call there.

Disruption is expected to last throughout the day with “no estimate on when the station will reopen”.

The alarm was raised with reports of a fire in a vape shop in Union Street at about 15:45. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says nine appliances and three high-reach vehicles remain at the scene.

The fire took hold of the Victorian buildings neighbouring the station and the dome at one corner collapsed. However, Network Rail said it had not identified any significant damage to the station itself.

This will be a tremendous shock for businesses and residents and of course we’re thinking of people who may have lost their homes. It is unknown if there are any casualties at this time.
