Remember back in the day when solar eclipses happened. Daytime turned to night as the sun was almost entirely masked.
We’ve had solar eclipses in recent years, but only partially when it just got a wee bit darker. Well, the greatest solar eclipse in 27 years is happening….next month!
While not a total solar eclipse, people will see around 90% of the Sun covered by the Moon across the British Isles. The partial solar eclipse will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in the UK. In London, the Moon will begin covering the Sun from 6:17 pm, reaching its peak coverage at 7:12 pm, before ending its eclipse at 8:06 pm.
Here in Scotland, daytime will become night for a brief time, with our surroundings and the sky becoming very noticeably darker.
