The summer holidays are almost over and it’s nearly time for thousands of children and young people across South Lanarkshire to head back to schools and nurseries!
Maybe you’re wondering where the summer disappeared to, but the new 2026/27 school year gets underway this week. South Lanarkshire Council has confirmed the dates for the new academic year.
📅 THIS WEEK
🍎 Tuesday 11 August – Teachers return
📋 Tuesday 11 & Wednesday 12 August – In-service days, with schools closed to pupils
🎒 Thursday 13 August – Pupils return to school
For many youngsters, Thursday will bring that exciting first day at a new school, while others will be moving up a year, meeting new teachers and catching up with friends after the long summer break.
And for parents already looking ahead the next couple of months, here are the next important dates for the diary:
🍂 SEPTEMBER WEEKEND
Friday 25 September & Monday 28 September
🎃 OCTOBER BREAK
Monday 12 October – Friday 16 October
