Tonight’s the night. Blantyre Christmas Lights are switched on!
Today, Sunday 22nd November 2020 WAS supposed to be the Blantyre Festive event, which was of course, cancelled this year due to the pandemic. A lot of families will be missing the popular event this year.
However, the date was held and the council proceeded to put up the street lights in Main Street and Glasgow Road, once again giving Blantyre two trees also! (Something appreciated when other Lanarkshire towns have had festive cuts) Both trees and both sets of lights are now lit!
A spokesperson for Blantyre Community Committee, the organisers of the festive event told us this evening, “It’s been a tough year for public events in general, but missing the Christmas event which brings so much cheer to families, especially children at this time of year, is a real blow. On a day normally a highlight of our calendar, we’re hoping families and community groups can rally to spread some Christmas cheer. We ask the whole community, business and residents when they put up their decorations to try to light up their windows this year and make all of Blantyre sparkle! All being well, we look forward to bringing our usual outdoor events back in 2021.
With just 33 days to go….it’s beginning to look a LOT like Christmas!
