The Cornerstone: Reviewed

An important week for the Cornerstone pub in High Blantyre as food returns to the menu! We decided to pop by to see what all the chat is about.

It was great to see a buzz about this pub again as the new kitchen opened yesterday. Michelle has worked extremely hard to get a decent menu put in place, offering 2 courses from as little as £8.95. And what courses, as our photos show!

Seated in the comfortable, cosy and traditional surroundings of the recently renovated pub, it was great to see many lunch and dinner options from midday right through until 7.30pm, from Thursdays to Sundays, with enough choice to cater for all.

Favourites like steak pie, chicken curry, fajitas, macaroni and more were available with a decent choice of starters and desserts.

We found the service, excellent. Staff were attentive, polite and friendly and nothing was any trouble. Our delicious soup arrived quickly, which was clearly home made and fresh. A follow up course was piping hot steak pie, with a light puff pasty and meat cooked to perfection. Generous portions of fresh vegetables accompanied dinner. The Macaroni was beautiful too, as confirmed by others in our party.

Elsewhere in the pub, the card machines are once again working and we found the bar prices to be most competitive. Toilets were immaculate and we heard SKY has once again been installed, with sports available to watch in the bar. Several parties and functions are planned.

Karaoke and other entertainment is on the cards too making the Cornerstone once again a good place for a night out. With the owners taking on feedback and so many new homes close by this venue, it’s hoped the fortunes of this pub are turning around and will once again be the successful, busy community pub as it so rightly deserves. We’ll definitely be back and wish everybody involved the very best of luck.
