Let’s talk about flooding in Lanarkshire! It’s been raining heavily over the last 24 hours which has caused lots of localised flooding and its still raining this afternoon!
According to one weather station in High Blantyre, over 40mm of rain has fallen in the last day causing local rivers to swell and flow at pace. On the roads, gullies and storm drains have filled with carriageways now flooding and causing difficult conditions for drivers.
This was the scene on the M74 as floods closed the road in both directions with diversions having to be put in place. More locally, flooding at Stoneymeadow and Calder Road near Blantyre Farm Road has caused large impassible puddles, deceptive in depth.
It’s forecast to dry up later today, but unfortunately more rain is forecast over the New Year holiday. Take care, especially where near rivers or driving.
