Some significant disruption is likely on the M74 this month with scheduled 13 Overnight closures of M74 northbound carriageway between Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell & Junction 5 Raith, including 3 daytime closures of Hamilton Motorway Services off & on slip roads.
Road users are advised that the M74 northbound carriageway between Junction 6 Hamilton & Motherwell and Junction 5 Raith, including Hamilton Motorway Services off and on slip roads, will be closed overnight for thirteen nights, commencing Tuesday 15 August 2023, for essential carriageway resurfacing and maintenance works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.
The closures will take place overnight from 8pm on the days below to 6am the following day as follows:
· Tuesday 15 August to Friday 18 August (4 nights)
· Sunday 20 August to Friday 25 August (6 nights)
· Sunday 27 August to Tuesday 29 August (3 nights)
As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:
· M74 northbound Junction 6 on slip road from Hamilton (A723)
· M74 northbound Junction 6 on slip road from Motherwell (A723)
· M74 northbound off slip road to Hamilton Motorway Services
· M74 northbound on slip road from Hamilton Motorway Services
· M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith off slip road to Raith roundabout (A725)
In addition, there will be three daytime closures of the M74 northbound off slip road or on slip road at Hamilton Motorway Services, for resurfacing works, from 6am to 8pm on the following days:
· Wednesday 16 August (1 day)
· Thursday 17 August (1 day)
· Friday 18 August (1 day)
A signed diversion route for the M74 northbound closures will be in place via the M74 northbound Junction 6 Hamilton off slip road, A723 to A72 Palace Grounds Road, Muir Street, Bothwell Road, A7071 Bellshill Road, re-joining the M74 northbound or A725 at Junction 5 Raith roundabout.
Access to the motorway services will be restricted during the three daytime closures with only one of the motorway services slip roads (off slip or on slip) being closed at any one time. A local diversion route will be in place for Hamilton Motorway Services via the back entrance at Mote Hill, Hamilton.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling at these times to check their route.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Roads Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, South Lanarkshire Council, Amey South West Unit and Police Scotland.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
