With South Lanarkshire Council delivering £55m of investment in their 2025/26 budget, it is somewhat disappointing to see that only £236k is allocated to Blantyre.
Whilst other towns have multi million pound investments being awarded, such as Larkhall Leisure Centre and the regeneration of EK and Hamilton, Blantyre has been thrown just £236k for the renovation of the changing rooms at Priory Playing fields, something which lets face it will NOT impact most of our day to day lives.
Though great news for those who use that small facility, it means the important community projects, halls and our library are once again completely sidelined. Our halls in Blantyre remaining under threat. Terminal One now likely after all these years of Youth activities, to finally close its doors at the end of this month. No money to upgrade or save halls. No plan to keep the library open or to invest in repairs to our Sports centre. Looking at the budget cuts, its only going to get worse next year and the year after, so we have to ask ourselves, how could it possibly be worse?!
Blantyre Community Council had a great post this week on a similar subject. We are the forgotten town.
