South Lanarkshire Council’s 2025-26 Budget Overview

South Lanarkshire Council Leader Joe Fagan outlines the budget agreed for 2025-26 and how it will invest more than £55 million in local communities while keeping council tax rates the lowest in Scotland.

Quite concerning with the lack of any mention of Blantyre and very little in the budget itself! What’s the thoughts? Is enough being done? Is Blantyre being forgotten?

  1. “Joe Fagan and his cronies” ignoring the good citizens of Blantyre should be ashamed. Millions for some, pennie’s for others.
It seems to me from afar that Blantyre has been and continues to be suppressed in favor of “better known”area names.
Many years ago I was very upset when the High Blantyre Industrial Estate where I served a lot of my apprenticeship was renamed HAMILTON Technology Park, even though through today, the addresses are of Blantyre, Glasgow.
When I was a kid 75 years ago, Blantyre was a “deprived”area and here we are 75 years on and STILL a deprived area.
    Shame, shame, shame!

There is the wonderful David Livingstone facility at one end and amazing PRIVATE Crossbasket at the other end. Not much in between and what there is lies with the hearts of concerned and willing citizens.
Thank goodness for Paul and The Telegraph or maybe more things would be run down or left unattended.
Joe is so proud of passing a budget and a council tax “less than others” while they have to get a kick in the rear to get road signs readable from overgrown weeds and fauna and so many areas with similar overgrowth.
I hope in the budget there is provision to look into waste and efficiencies. Too much to hope for I’m afraid.
How many offices in the council building are actually used and how many square feet are under utilized Joe?
How much council tax is being paid by the Blantyre community and is being used for projects outside of Blantyre?
I am proud of my Blantyre heritage but really, in almost 70 visits back in 46 years, it seems life is still a struggle for too many.
