With drivers in South Lanarkshire who park up on pavements now facing a £100 fine, its worth a reminder that this isn’t just a empty promise from authorities, the rule is being enforced and wardens have been out in many Blantyre streets this week.
Residents in Callaghan Wynd, Bardykes Road and the Village have been messaging us to say that wardens were out in these areas of Blantyre and were clearly issuing notices for full penalties, rather than warnings.
It’s a difficult subject, when residents are faced to park away from their homes and essentially having to make decisions about the expensive changing their gardens to accommodate off road parking. Then there is parking back on the roads themselves, already narrow roads, potentially compromising their security and the safety of others.
The new rules are of course designed to protect pedestrians, especially people in wheelchairs and those pushing buggies, who could be forced onto the road by vehicles on the pavement. This all looks to be exceptionally lucrative for SLC.
Have your say. Have YOU noticed anybody enforcing this yet?
